Mission Statement
The Mission of Vigo County EmCom is to facilitate the participation of Vigo County Amateur Radio operators to provide supplemental communications for public service agencies responding to disasters affecting Vigo County.
Does this mean we only participate in “Disasters”? No.
We also support safety related communications for local walk-a-thons, parades, and other public service events. This is a valuable training ground for our ultimate mission, which is communications assistance in the event of a disaster or other emergency.
Our intent is to work with local Emergency Management and other Public Service agencies to establish the infrastructure, plans and procedures to best utilize the capabilities of the total Amateur Radio population of Vigo County to support a potential emergency situation. We do this by working with these agencies to establish these plans and procedures, to coordinate/communicate these plans with local Amateur Radio Operators.
Vigo County EmCom is a volunteer program, and as with most volunteer programs, we have procedures and chain of command. We ask the you follow procedure and the chain of command. You will be asked to do duties as prescribed by Emergency Coordinator and his Assistant Emergency Coordinators, and be expected to follow through with these duties. There will be mandatory training sessions, and you will be expected to attend. These training sessions are an asset to you, and in turn, make you more of an asset to the agencies EmCom serves. They also give us a chance to work with each other as a group, and in the long run, allow operations to run much more smooth!
If you would be interested in joining the EmCom Community we would love to have you.
